Rajkot to get 40-minute Water Supply from Dussehra

Rajkot residents have a reason to smile as Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) is going to increase the water supply time from 20 minutes to 40 minutes daily from Dussehra.

RMC has since long planning to increase the water supply time from 20 minutes to 40 minutes and it has recently formed separate water division which looks after only water supply related issues in the city. According to RMC mayor Janak Kotak, good monsoon and planning from RMC officials has helped them to increase the water supply time. "We are fortunate that monsoon has been good and all the dams from where Rajkot city receives drinking supply are brimming this year. So, we have decided to increase the time,'' Kotak said.

RMC officials said 89 per cent of households in the city have been covered with direct water supply connection. There 2.5 lakh water connections in the city. As of now RMC supplies 110 litre per capita per day. Sources said till now RMC supplied 440 lakh gallons, and from Dussehra it will supply 500 lakh gallons. "Daily we lift water from Aji (60 to 200 lakh gallon), Nyari (70 to 115 lakh gallon), Bhadar (100 lakh gallon) and 70 lakh gallon from Narmada. tnn

"The 150 MLD water treatment plant built under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) at Raiyadhar also helped up in this regard,'' an RMC official said. Recently, RMC has taken up a pilot project to replace the old water distribution network in the city to make water distribution system more efficient and effective.
