14 tremors rock Junagadh

RAJKOT: Fourteen mild aftershocks were experienced in Junagadh district on Sunday which created panic among the people. Institute of Seismological Research (ISR), Gandhinagar said 14 tremors with magnitude ranging between 1 and 2.1 on the Richter scale were recorded in Sasan Gir of Junagadh. One tremor was also felt in Kutch district.

ISR officials said since the October 20 earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale, a total of 243 tremors have been recorded in the state, mostly in Junagadh district.

The epicentre of October 20 earthquakes lay 20 km south east of Sasan Gir near Vansthli town in Junagadh. The tremor was felt in Ahmedabad, south Gujarat and even in Mumbai. Some areas of Maliya-Hatina taluka and Talala taluka in Junagadh district bore the brunt of the quake. However, there were no casualties. tnn
